The location, size, water use, aquatic vegetation coverage and water depth are all factors that can coincide in unique ways to influence the health of the lake.  Oftentimes, odor and water color can reveal a lot, however, the unique characteristics of a lake or pond are not always this simple to...

One of our goals is to maintain a balance of native fish in the lake that promotes a healthy level of fish that not only keeps the lake “alive”, but offers a stock of fish to fishermen.  Native Fish are important to aquatic ecosystems because healthy fish populations tend to...

We have been using Triploid grass carp to help keep our lake weeds and vegetation under control.  These fish are unique, olive-green, cigar-shaped fish often observed basking in the sunshine in shallow water as they soak up warm surface temperatures.  What sets these fish apart from others is their intense...

Story About Us

Who are we?

Clear Lakes Foundation was founded in 2021 by a group of friendly neighbors who wanted to make a difference in the conservation and uses of lake communities. The foundation commenced its journey in the neighborhood of the Isle of Catalina which is connected via 7 canals to Clear Lake in Orlando Florida.

This neighborhood was established in the 1950’s and is known for having one of the first homeowner’s associations in the United States…

Clear Lakes Foundation General Fund

Clear Lakes Foundation was formed as an inspiring project to restore and maintain the beauty and water enjoyment of our lakes and canals.  All our work and projects are funded through volunteers and donations from neighbors like you. Right now, our primary focus is cleaning and rebuilding Clear Lake, it’s canals and park.  But, as our movement grows, we hope to expand our efforts and successes to other small lakes in the Orlando area.  So, even if you cannot volunteer, please consider donating to our general fund.  100% of our...

Clear Lake

Clear Lake is a 357-acre (1,440,000 m2) freshwater lake located in central Orlando, Florida.  This lake, somewhat lemon shaped, is surrounded by a residential area.  A series of canals on the lake’s southwest provide boat access for the houses there.  John Young Parkway borders the lake on part of its west side.  A very small portion of John Young Parkway crosses the extreme western part of Clear Lake.

Fishing, walking and boating are popular activities.  There are no public swimming areas on the shore of this lake.  Three public parks border Clear Lake.  On the extreme western edge is Washington Shore Park, which is mainly a park with a track, football field and four softball fields.  Another park, Clear Lake Park, is on the southeast edge of the lake.  This park has walking trails, a fishing dock and a boardwalk.  A third park, George Barker Memorial Park, is on the northeast corner of the lake.  A public boat ramp in this park is on a canal leading to Clear Lake.  This park also has two fishing piers, playgrounds, a volleyball court and a basketball court.

Clear Lake is one of the Fab Five Fishing Lakes in Florida.  LEARN MORE

News and Updates

Canal Spraying

Date: 2/8/2023
The canal spraying for the Isle of Catalina has a schedule change. Starting May of 2022, the canals will be sprayed as followed for top water invasive plants. May, June, July, September, October and November.

Bottom Weeds Treatment

Date:
Bottom weeds are not treated due to lack of funds provided by the Isle of Catalina HOA. There has been some research and testing done by volunteers on the Sea Breeze, Gulfstream, indward and Tradewinds canal. The volunteers living on this canal were able to raise $2,600 to have Applied Aquatic Management do bottom spray in order to control and eliminate most of the invasive weeds except the eel grass. Please visit this canal for inspiration in participating with your neighbors to do the same for your canal. You can help by sending a small DONATION.

We Need Volunteers

Volunteering is a great way to get involved in your community and make a difference.  Our work is driven by people just like you.  This is especially important if you have a skill, equipment or connections that could help on our projects and keep our financial budgets at a minimum.  Clear Lakes Foundation relies on volunteers and donations to achieve our goals and remain productive, and it also is a good feature to put on a resume.  We provide all training that is required at no cost.
